Colorado Passes to use RF technology

“Your 2008-2009 season pass is getting a high-tech makeover. All passes for next season — The Epic, Colorado, and Summit season passes — will utilize a new state-of-the-art radio frequency technology that’ll offer an “easy scan” process, where we can scan the pass through your clothing, giving you the option to keep your pass zipped inside your jacket in the lift lines at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado and Heavenly in Lake Tahoe.”

They should keep the slopes open.

Vail Resorts and Intrawest would be crazy to close everything next weekend. Steamboat and many others already closed this weekend. But, beyond the slush at the bottom: there’s plenty of snow! We were at Keystone this weekend and I was still finding fluffy powder in the trees. Vail has tons of powder still, too. Please, please don’t close quite yet!

Vail Announces Epic Pass

From Sam: Vail Resorts came out with a press release yesterday about their new ‘Epic Pass‘. It is an unrestricted (no blackout dates), and unlimited (go as many times as you want) to Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin and Heavenly for $579 for adults and $279 for kids. It is available until November 15th. This is probably going to be the best ski deal of the year. Click here for details on the Epic Pass. Also, as a bonus, all of the passes will be using RFID (radio frequency) technology this year so you won’t have to take the pass out of your clothing.

Buddy pricing through 3/9/08

Nirav just noted that the latest pricing for ski-with-a-friend pass (Colorado Pass) pricing is as follows: $75 for Vail/Beaver Creek, $59 for Keystone/Breckenridge, $49 for Arapahoe Basin. March 9 - March 22 will become even more expensive so now would be a good weekend to use those tickets. Thanks, Nirav.

Discounted Lift Tickets

If you’re looking to find some discounted lift tickets (beyond King Soopers tickets or buddy pricing) then look no further than Sliding On The Cheap. Not just limited to Colorado but has a newsletter and a few resources listing great ticket deals. via

Worthwhile Reading

I’m not entirely sure why a Colorado resort is reviewed in a Dallas newspaper, but here’s a nice article about Arapahoe Basin.

12 inches at Vail!

12 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours at Vail means the $12 lift ticket special is going on right now! If you’re planning a trip to Vail, you might want to check out this deal in the next 7 hours (the special only lasts 12 hours). If you get a good deal, let us know!

Get all the details on Deals for ski resorts in Vail from your travel advisor. You can get a really cheap hotel in Vail; even cheaper than orlando hotel rooms. An orlando hotel is usually cheaper than other hotels in major cities. You’ll be staying at comfortable hotel rooms at affordable rates. However, a miami hotel on the beachfront is almost double the price of hotels in the city. All flights to phoenix have been delayed due to the snow storm alert.

12 Hour Snowfall Special

Ski.com recently announced a new ski special — if it snows 12 inches in 24 hours at a Vail resort, they’ll offer $12 lift ticket ski packages if you book within 12 hours. Naturally, there are a couple caveats. There are quite a few blackout dates, only 4-night travel packages are eligible for $12 tickets, and you get only one discounted ticket per person. But, with Vail tickets at $92 the last time I checked, it’s may not be such a bad deal if you’re getting a trip together with a bunch of friends that don’t have passes.

Arapahoe Basin Opens Montezuma Bowl

If you missed it last weekend: “Colorado powder hounds will get access to a new lift-served playground this week, as Arapahoe Basin announced the opening of Montezuma Bowl for Friday, Jan. 11. The 400-acre terrain expansion boosts the size of A-Basin by about 80 percent, a significant addition by any measure, especially for a small mountain that already skis big.” Will the new lift-served land overfill the already too-crowded parking lots? Will back-country skiers head somewhere else to play? Time will tell.Read more at New West Snow Blog.

More powder in high country

Yesterday I was at Vail and it was surprisingly crowded (for a Tuesday). Lots of fresh snow everywhere and perfect blue skies all day. New snow has started falling today (Wednesday) and the mountains are under a winter storm warning. Again, travel is not easy so be prepared and take caution.

Find discount airline tickets for your trip to Disney world in orlando. To make games come to life, keep a flight simulator game for the kids to play on the airplane. Remember to make hotel reservations in advance for spacious rooms. All orlando hotel rooms have great rates and amazing views. When heading out to travel into orlando city, get your self great bus travel deals. When you’re traveling, ask your travel guides for places for great photography.

9 Killed in Charter Bus Crash

From the Associated Press: “A ninth person died Monday after a bus carrying skiers home from a Colorado resort plunged off a damp, twisting highway in southeastern Utah and landed 41 feet below with its tires ripped away and the roof destroyed … Arrow Stage refused to identify the organizers who leased the bus for the trip. Roden said it was among as many as 17 chartered for a long weekend in Telluride, Colo.” Please be careful navigating the roads this season–these last few days have been dangerous in the high country.

New Storm Hits High Country and Southern Colorado

The winter storm that wrecked havoc in California seems to have moved its way to Colorado. Aspen and Vail are expected to have 10 inches of new snow by Tuesday morning while Silverton and Wolf Creek are reporting snowfall amounts as high as 42 inches over the weekend. While this may seem like good news, road conditions may make it difficult to get in on the action as portions of I-70 and several passes have been periodically shut down due to dangerous driving conditions. See the Denver Post article here.

Loveland closes for first time in four years

Thanks to I-70 closing on Sunday and Monday “Loveland Ski Area, a favorite of Front Range skiers, shuttered all of its slopes for the first time in four years, while other resorts struggled with accommodating stranded tourists.” Read more at the Rocky Mountain News.

Snow strands skiiers in high country

Whiteout conditions stranded over 2,000 people in Silverthorne as officials closed I-70 from Vail to Georgetown (eastbound) on Sunday night. Hotels were full, restaurants were packed and many people never made it home. Shelters were set up on Sunday and Steamboat Springs reported over 17 inches. Visit CBS4Denver.com for more.
